Implementation NSW syllabus development Australian curriculum Development process for Phase 1 subjects

NSW has made no commitment to implementation of the Australian Curriculum for arts subjects. The Board of Studies will follow its regular cycle of curriculum evaluation and review which will identify priorities for curriculum renewal. When a current syllabus or learning area is identified for renewal the Board will take the opportunity to incorporate Australian curriculum content. In all cases, all schools are required to implement current approved NSW Syllabuses until otherwise advised by the Board. Implementation

The Australian Curriculum: The Arts is being developed for F-10 is described in bands of year levels not Stages has content descriptions not outcomes has content elaborations not ‘learn to’ and ‘learn about’ Organisation of the Australian Curriculum

The Australian Curriculum: The Arts comprises five subjects: Dance Drama Media Arts Music Visual Arts Organisation of the Australian Curriculum

Each subject is presented through two interrelated strands Making – using processes, techniques, knowledge and skills to make art works Responding – exploring, responding to, analysing and interpreting art works Organisation of the Australian Curriculum

The Australian Curriculum: The Arts proposes: F-6 opportunities to learn in five Arts subjects Years 7-8 opportunities to learn in one or more Arts subjects Years 9-10 opportunities to specialise in one or more Arts subjects Organisation of the Australian Curriculum
