Michigan Timeline 2013-2014 · Become familiar with the NGSS and Framework (background, structure, purpose) · Begin implementing the practices into current material taught within our current CEs · Discuss and select HS and MS course structures and develop a plan for transition · Finalize a plan for curriculum alignment, and professional development · Audit common assessments for alignment   2014-2015 · Begin planned implementation · Spring MEAP (4 & 7)/MME (11) will consist of NGSS-GLCE/HSCE overlap questions. 2015-2016 · Continue planned implementation 2016-2017 · K-12 Implementation · Spring 2017 Possible NGSS Assessment

Looking Ahead… What challenges might teachers face when implementing the NGSS? What challenges might districts face when implanting the NGSS? How might we work together to reduce these challenges?

Future Challenges Teacher certification Transitioning between current course offerings and NGSS course recommendations For example: Many schools offer Earth 8, Biology 9, Chem10 and Physics 11. The Achieve and MDE top recommended course structure is Physical Science 9, Biology 10 and Earth Science 11. 8th grade will have grade level content expectations. Collaboration on unit planning and assessment creation at the local and national level Possible transition to annual assessments of NGSS in grades 3-8 in future years
