Guidelines of the teamwork (Seminar) BK50A2700 Selection Criteria of Structural Materials

Topic Each team can select the topic for their team work freely, but the following conditions should be fulfilled: The topic is any mechanical construction, machine or system, which could be seen as a green technology application (e.g. different types of wind power applications, solar panel constructions, environmental material selection for an existing application etc.) The selected construction should include components made from several different material types (e.g. metallic materials, polymers, composites, ceramics, adaptive materials etc.) The main purpose is to describe the connections between the requirements profile of each component and the materials’ property profile to justify the material selection in the selected application

Content The approach of the teamwork should be based on the principles of systematic material selection process The team work and the presentation should discuss at least the following seven main viewpoints: Material selection based on wear resistance Material selection based on corrosion resistance Material selection based on strength properties Material selection based on manufacturability Reliability based material selection Environmental and sustainability aspects in material selection Cost effectiveness

Presentation and evaluation The grading is not based on a written exam. Instead of that 70% of the grade becomes form the teamwork and 30% from the exercises The evaluation of the teamwork is based both on the Power Point- presentation and the written report of the seminar work Presentation time is limited to max. 15 minutes/team
