PSAT/NMSQT Scores and Review

Scores on a scale of 20 to 80 Average score for 11 th graders was 47 in Critical Reading, 48 in Math, and 46 in Writing Skills in Average score for 10 th graders was 42 in Critical Reading, 43 in Math, and 41 in Writing Skills in 2009.

Selection Index Used to determine eligibility in NMSC Sum of the 3 scores in each test section (CR+M+W) Ranges from 60 to 240 Average for students in 11 th grade is about 141 Only students in 11 th grade are eligible to enter NMSC scholarship programs

Score Reports Include National Percentiles Allow you to compare your scores with other students in same grade level who took PSAT/NMSQT If you take the PSAT/NMSQT in 11 th grade, you receive junior percentiles If you take in 10 th grade or younger, you receive sophomore percentiles

Example of National Percentiles 11 th grader with percentile of 55 has earned a score better than 55% of all juniors who took the PSAT/NMSQT If 100 students lined up from the lowest (or 1 st ) percentile at the end of the line to highest (or 99th) percentile at the front of the line For 55 th percentile, you are 56 th person in line, ahead of 55 people and behind 44.
