Iqbal – A Story of Hope and Courage Vocabulary

Iqbal – Part 1 - Vocabulary  looms – (noun) a wooden frame worked by hand for weaving yarn into a textile or a rug.  The first ones to go to the bathroom every morning were those who had slept chained by their ankles to their looms.  slate – (noun) a sheet of rock to write on like a chalkboard.  I had my own little slate hanging above the loom I worked on.  rupee – (noun) the standard money unit of India, Nepal, and Pakistan; like our dollar  I'll give you a rupee for every day you work.  weft - (noun) the yarn woven across the width of the fabric through the lengthwise warp yarn  They passed the weft, beat it down with the comb, then started knotting.  precision – (noun) accuracy; exactness  delicacy – (noun) exact, tiny details in the construction  Nobody was as fast and skillful as he, nobody knew how to tighten the knots with such precision and delicacy.  assure – (verb) to promise; to make certain  Here they learn an honest profession that will assure them a better future.  cistern – (noun) an underground container for the storage of rainwater  The Tomb was an old cistern, buried under the courtyard, closed by a grating at the foot of a damp, slippery stairway.
