Lake Michigan Fun Facts The Cherokee Indians named Lake Michigan Lake Michig-gama, which means, “big water”

The United States has five great Lakes  Lake Michigan is the sixth largest lake in the world!

Lake Michigan is being invaded!  Zebra mussels are a species of fish that are invading Lake Michigan and causing environmental chaos.  They attach themselves to large ships that come from other countries.

Lake Michigan divides Michigan into two parts.  Michigan has the lower peninsula and the upper peninsula.  The Mackinaw Bridge connects the two peninsulas.

Lake Michigan is a freshwater lake.  Fishing is a popular past time in Lake Michigan.  Some popular types of fish are: Salmon, Perch, Trout and Coho
