Taft Elementary Title Meeting

AGENDA What is Title 1? Action Plan: What does it look like at Taft Elementary? Assessment Title Policy Parent Conferences: Survey and Compact Questions

What is Title 1? The Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 was created “to ensure that all children have a fair, equal and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging State academic achievement standards and state academic assessments.” U.S. Dept. of Education,

Title at Taft Elementary Assessments determine involvement in the program. There is small group instruction for each grade level each day. There is ongoing assessment that determine the students instructional needs and continuation in the program. Students who are multiple grade levels behind are being monitored and for some receive a second intervention.

Assessment Students will be assessed using a formative assessment system call STAR. This system will be used to determine the students present levels in Reading and in Mathematics. Students will also be assessed using the Fountas & Pinnell reading assessment. This formative assessment helps drill down to specific instructional needs of the students. These two assessments help us communicate to both the parent and the student present academic levels.

Parent Involvement Policy * Handouts available Taft Elementary recognizes that parent involvement is vital to achieve maximum educational growth for all students. Therefore, in compliance with federal law and Oregon Department of Education guidelines, and based on parent comments and suggestions, Taft Elementary School adopts the following parent involvement policy.

Parent Involvement Policy Parents are welcomed and encouraged to visit their child’s classroom or have lunch with their child. Parents and Teachers are encouraged to communicate freely and openly about their child’s progress at school. Parents and others who volunteer to work at school with children other than their own must pass a criminal background check, per district policy and take the district online training.

Parent Involvement Policy Parents are entitled to know the educational background of school staff who works with their children. Parents are entitled to provide input about policy decisions od the school and/or school district. Comments may be made to Taft Administration, Lincoln County School district board of Directors or the Lincoln County School District.
