Early copy-edit experiment Experiences with the Diameter SIP application draft-ietf-sip-diameter-sip-app IETF 64 Vancouver, 6-11 November,

Timescale September 2005October 2005 Reported 14 hours spent on edition. about 300 changes 3 suggestions (global changes) September 21: -08 published September 23: -08 submitted to the RFC editor September 28: RFC editor returns -08b (edited) September 29: -09 published October 3: 3 rd WGLC starts Draft Revisions October 17: 3 rd WGLC ends October 21: -10 published about 400 changes The extra 100 changes where the result of the 3 suggestions about 100 changes

Some thoughts All changes suggested by the RFC Editor were editorial in nature (Editor’s interpretation) Impact on the WGLC: 0 But AAA WG had a chance to review the changes suggested by the RFC Editor and agree that the changes are editorial in nature. The process relieves the editor and AD from verifying the nature of changes. The positive aspect of the early-copy edit experiment Ability to do changes myself to the XML document, as a result of the RFC Editor comments. It would have been a pain to do global changes with the “OLD – NEW” process during AUTH48. Impact on the early copy-edit experiment in the timescale of the document: No impact detected. We could have waited event 3 or 4 more weeks.
