Who, Me A Servant?

WHAT ON EARTH AM I HERE FOR?

Servanthood “Me, A Servant?” “The Servant’s Attitude” “The Dangers of Servanthood” “The Rewards of Servanthood”

Ephesians 6:7-8 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, 8 because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does, whether he is slave or free

You were saved to serve God.

Our Problem Ephesians 2 – 1 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.

3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. Our Problem

4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved. God’s Solution

6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kind- ness to us in Christ Jesus.

God’s Solution 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

What are we saved for? 10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

You were saved to serve God. We serve God by serving others.

Joshua 24:14-15 "Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshiped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD.”

15 “But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living.”

15 “But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."

Matthew 24:40 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'

“God did not save you to be a spectator. He saved you to be a servant.”

Galatians 5:13,14 For you, dear friends, have been called to live in freedom, not to satisfy your sinful nature, but to serve one another in love. 14 The entire law is summed up in a single command: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.’

"If what they are saying about you is true, change your ways. If it isn't true, forget it, and go on and serve the Lord." H.A. Ironside

Serving or ministry to others within the church family makes for a healthy church

Ephesians 4:11,12 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up…

13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

1 Peter 4:10 Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.

A Healthy Church

John 12:26 “Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.”

1 Thessalonians 1:9 Your faith in God has become known everywhere. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God…
