The Myth in Literature

Evident in all ages of literature Literature keeps classical mythology alive in the world today Some writers copy the style of the myth. Others simply modernize stories in the very same style used in the epic poems

The Myth in art

Nearly every museum will have at least one piece of art depicting classical mythology Painting Sculpture Statues Carving

With the birth of Christianity, mythology fell by the wayside. It was considered sacrilegious or paganistic to possess (or create) art that depicted ancient myths.

The myth in movies

Several movies make allusions to characters/scenes from mythology (directly and indirectly), but few tell the actual story itself

The myth in cartoons

Heroes of classical mythology lend themselves to the superheroes of today’s animated world. The action, villains, monsters, heroes – all elements combine to create an action-packed adventure story well-suited for an animated feature.

The myth in television

Good vs. bad GOOD BAD Oral tradition ensured our knowledge of the ancient myths We were able to depict these myths on TV, passing on the knowledge to future generations TV depictions don’t always stay true to the original myth

Important to keep traditional myth ALIVE for future generations
