Today’s Sermon: Mark 16:1-14: “Jesus Christ Is Resurrected From The Dead” by Pastor Jim Bomkamp

Outline of last week’s msg: 1. Jesus was crucified by the Roman soldiers at Pilate’s direction. 2. We talked about crucifixion. 3. We discussed on what day Jesus was crucified? 4. We discussed what Jesus was experiencing when He cried out, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken me?” 5. We discussed the women who followed Jesus.

Outline of today’s msg: 1. We will look at the motives of those who came on Sunday morning to further anoint Jesus’ body. 2. We will look at the post resurrection appearances of Jesus. 3. We will discuss some the timeline of post-resurrection events. 4. We will see how what is recorded in the gospels encourages our faith. 5. We will discuss the way in which Jesus appears to people. 6. The doctrine of the resurrection of Jesus is as important as any NT truth

Mark 16:1-3: Women come to the tomb early Sunday morning to further anoint Jesus’ body for burial

It is only love that is directing these women to come to the tomb of Jesus on this day

The women do not let the hindrance of huge stone keep them from coming to anoint Jesus’ body

Mark 16:4-6: The women find the stone rolled away from the tomb and an angel inside the tomb telling them Jesus is risen from the dead

Notice how specific this angel is in declaring Jesus is not there: 1. He calls Him ‘Jesus the Nazarene’. 2. He says He is the one ‘who has been crucified’. 3. The angel points the women to ‘where they laid Him’

Mark 16:7: The angel tells the women to go and tell the disciples and Peter to go and meet Him in Galilee

The disciples were not exactly sure that the Lord after His resurrection would look at them the same, or accept them the same

Mark 16:8: The women were amazed and fearful and went straight back to the disciples at the house

Mark 16:9-11: Jesus first appeared to Mary Magdalene, but when she returned to the disciples they refused to believe her

Peter and John ran to the tomb, and Mary Magadalene came following behind, and then lingered after they left, and met Jesus

When Mary Magdalene returns and tells the disciples gathered and mourning that Jesus has been risen from the dead, they ‘refused’ to believe her

Mark 16:12-13: Jesus appeared ‘in a different form’ to two disciples journeying to a different area

After Jesus’ resurrection, no one scarcely recognized Him when He appeared to them— Did Jesus alter His appearance uniquely each time He appeared to others???

Jesus is always appearing to us as people in different ways…

But now, it comes to you…   How is Jesus coming and appearing to you today?   Are you expectant upon meeting Him in new and fresh ways in your life today?    I know that if you have eyes for and look for Him, you will find Him right where you are today!

Mark 16:14: Jesus appeared to the 11 as they were at reclining at the table, and then He reproached them for unbelief and hardness of heart
