Lessons Learned from Washing Feet
Presentation transcript:

Some Things Jesus Was Found Doing How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him (Acts 10:38).

Paying His Taxes Matt. 17:24 When they had come to Capernaum, those who received the temple tax came to Peter and said, "Does your Teacher not pay the temple tax?" 25 He said, "Yes." And when he had come into the house, Jesus anticipated him, saying, "What do you think, Simon? From whom do the kings of the earth take customs or taxes, from their sons or from strangers?" 26 Peter said to Him, "From strangers." Jesus said to him, "Then the sons are free. 27 Nevertheless, lest we offend them, go to the sea, cast in a hook, and take the fish that comes up first. And when you have opened its mouth, you will find a piece of money; take that and give it to them for Me and you.” Joseph & Mary went to be taxed (Lk. 2:1-5). We must also pay our taxes (Rom. 13:1-6).

Washing the Disciples’ Feet John 13:3 Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into His hands, and that He had come from God and was going to God, 4 rose from supper and laid aside His garments, took a towel and girded Himself. 5 After that, He poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel with which He was girded. 6 Then He came to Simon Peter. And Peter said to Him, "Lord, are You washing my feet?" 7 Jesus answered and said to him, "What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know after this." Footwashing—Good Work (1 Tim. 5:10). We must engage in good works—Gal. 6:10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Performing Miracles Walked on water (Jn. 6:19) Healed Paralytics (Mk. 2:1-12) Made the blind to see (Jn. 9:7) Purpose: Cause people to believe! Jn. 2:22 Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this to them; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said. Jn. 4:39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, “He told me all that I ever did.” Jn. 6:2 Then a great multitude followed Him, because they saw His signs which He performed on those who were diseased. Jn. 6:14 Then those men, when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, "This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world."

Setting A Good Example 1 Pet. 2:21 For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps. Christian are to be salt and light: Matt. 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. Follow good examples, thus becoming good examples: Phil. 4:9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

Rebuking False Teachers Matt. 23 Pharisees, Scribes, hypocrites… Matt. 7:15 Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves. We must do the same: 1 Jn. 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 Thess. 5:21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. Rom. 16:17 Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them.

Bearing Our Sins Isa. 53:4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. 1 Pet. 2:24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness- -by whose stripes you were healed.
