The Seven Churches of Asia - Ephesus “The Church Who Left Her First Love” (Revelation 2:1-7)
The church in Ephesus was planted by Paul (Acts 18:18- 21)
Revelation 2:1-7 He who holds the seven stars in His right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden lampstands Matthew 28:20; Hebrews 13:5-6
You will notice that in this letter there is a commendation, a condemnation, needed counsel, and a promise.
COMMENDATION Revelation 2:2-3, 6 “I Know” John 2:24-25 Hebrews 4:13
I know your works, your labor, your patience… John 9:4 1 Corinthians 15:58
I know…you cannot bear those who are evil 1 Corinthians 5:9-11 the reason: 1 Corinthians 5:5 2 Thess. 3:6
I know…you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars 1 John 4:1; 2 John 9-11; Acts 17:11
I know…you have persevered and have patience, and have labored for My name's sake and have not become weary Galatians 6:9
I know…you hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate
CONDEMNATION Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love (Revelation 3:4)
It is significant that Jesus does not accuse them of no longer having love – but of less love, a lower quality love John 4:24 Ephesians 4:15
COUNSEL Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works, or else I will come to you quickly and remove your lampstand from its place - unless you repent Revelation 2:5
PROMISE He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God. Revelation 2:7
MAY WE NEVER LEAVE OUR FIRST LOVE
