Phased Array Scanner system Leg hier wat uit over het Rotoscan systeem met phased array, de toepassing in de praktijk. Ultrasonic Hardware P.A. Probes Probe frame Encoder | 2

RTD Phased Array Long cable between PC and scanner, due to electronics on top of scanner Very short cable (0,5m) between PA probes and ultrasonic pulsers Has conventional PE channels for additional TOFD Has 128 elements (divided over 2 probes) Can activate up to 32 elements simultaneously to create focus and beam steering Het phased array principe is toepasbaar op alle golflengten. (radio golven, ultrasone golven, akoestische golven) Voor deze presentatie zijn we geïnteresseerd in ultrasone golven. De toepassing die later gepresenteerd wordt, is op deze golflengte gebaseerd. Om een idee te krijgen van hoeveel elementen er actief gebruikt worden: 16 tot 32. De meest gebruikte frequentie ligt tussen de 1 en 10 MHz. De element grootte is in de orde van tiende millimeters. | 3

Tandem Probe application Zone 2 Leg bij deze sheet uit dat er een array met 64 elementen gebruikt wordt om een kant van een las te scannen. Van dit aantal elementen worden er 16 gebruikt om een bundel te maken, dit is de actieve groep elementen. De actieve groep kan langs het array verschoven worden-----> inzendpunt verschuiving. Een actieve groep kan als zender en een andere actieve groep als ontvanger fungeren-----> tandem configuratie (zie figuur) Met de weergegeven constructie kunnen dezelfde configuraties worden gemaakt als met het multi probe systeem. Maak een overgang van het meet principe naar het meet systeem (Phased Array Rotoscan). RTD heeft voor het doen van lasnaad inspectie een systeem, gebaseerd op bovenstaande principes. | 6

Phased Array Operational advantages Small diameter pipelines with heavy wall can be inspected with sufficient number of inspection (depth) zones System can be programmed to cope with different pipe suppliers (different sound velocity) Set-up preparation time of system can be significant reduced (e.g. no waiting time for probe fabrication) Smaller scanner frame and umbilical, easier to handle | 8

Rotoscan system: Why qualification? The Qualification of an AUT inspection system is required by the main International inspection specifications such as: DNV 2000 OS-F101 API 1104 20th Edition Client AUT specifications Most AUT acceptance criteria are related to ECA calculations where accuracy of AUT sizing measurements and associated POD & Confidence level are important input parameters. Comparison of AUT result with conventional X-ray (taking into account the physical differences) | 10

Inspection procedure For application of the Rotoscan, it is good practice to operate strictly according to a mutually agreed inspection procedure To judge the results, the procedure always contains clear acceptance/rejection criteria RTD reports whether the welds are or are not in compliance with the acceptance criteria With this scan report, the Customer decides whether or not to reject a weld | 13
