Conventional Roof Framing Class Exercise Residential Studies Certificate IV 2182D

Using the Floor Plan & Details provided complete the Preliminary Calculations so that the most economical Size, Span and Spacing Of the Ceiling and Roof members can be achieved.

Note: Hyspan LVL Strutting Beams to Living/Family & Living/Dining rooms as shown Floor Plan Class Exercise 1

Preliminary Calculations Common Rafter True Length of Common RafterPitch Half Span Rise Half Span = – = 3.635m Rise = 30 Tan x = 2.099m TLCR = TLCR = cos = 4.197m

Calculate Common Rafter Span - RLW RLW = = 2.098m RLW = 2.098m Say 2.100m

Calculate Eaves Overhang – Eaves RLW TL O/Hang = COS 30 = 0.693m 0.693m RLW Eaves = 0.693m

Calculate Fan Struts Strut = 2.1 Strut = Tan30 x = Strut

Calculate Fan Strut Length Fan Strut =  = 1.713m or = cos 45 = 1.713m Half Spread Fan Strut = 1.211m Fan Strut Length = 1.713m

Calculate Distance X Distance X is the distance From the inside of the plate to the centre of the underpurlin. The Formula is Run of rafter divided by 2 minus the width of the wall plate Run of rafter = / 2 = – 90 = 1728

Summary: Rafter Span = Say RLW Underpurlin = 2.1 Eaves Overhang = Distance X = Half spread of the fan strut = Full spread of the fan strut = Length of strut = 1.713
