GRADED UNIT SPECIFICATION  Why the need for change?

 Structure of the Instrument of Assessment made it too easy for Candidates to obtain ‘A’ Grades NEED FOR CHANGE

STRUCTURE OF INSTRUMENT OF ASSESSMENT  Computational – 70%  Narrative – 30%

SQA RESPONSE Commissioned re-write of Unit Specification

DRAFT NEW UNIT SPECIFICATION  Draft Unit Specification presented to Network  Network Response

 Network Response – Draft Unit Specification not well received. It was felt that the New Unit Specification was too difficult and would result in very few ‘A’ Grades. NETWORK RESPONSE

 After consultation it was decided that the existing Unit Specification, with some alterations, would be acceptable COMPROMISE

 Structure of the Instrument of Assessment changed ALTERATION TO UNIT SPECIFICATION

 Inclusion of Using Financial Accounting Software as Recommended Prior Knowledge and Skills  Computational – 60%  Narrative – 40% STRUCTURE OF INSTRUMENT OF ASSESSMENT

COMPUTATIONAL  3 Sections:-  Purchase of Materials and Wages Analysis – 10%  Ledger Accounts and Trial Balance – 25%  Preparation of Final Accounts – 25%

NARRATIVE  Now split in to two Sections:-  Section A – Financial Accounting  Section B – Management Accounting

SECTION A – FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING  Candidates will be given the choice of 3 Questions and must answer 2

SECTION B – MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING  Candidates will be given the choice of 3 Questions and must answer 2
