Matthew 27:27-44 (NIV) Then the governor's soldiers took Jesus into the Praetorium and gathered the whole company of soldiers around him.

Matthew 27:27-44 (NIV) They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head.

Matthew 27:27-44 (NIV) They put a staff in his right hand and knelt in front of him and mocked him. "Hail, king of the Jews!" they said.

Matthew 27:27-44 (NIV) They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again.

Bottom Line: In becoming like Jesus in his sufferings, we also experience the power of his resurrection in our lives.

Bottom Line:

The Bible gives us an alternative – embrace suffering in the shadow of the cross! The cross is our model for service.

Bottom Line:

The cross is the standard.
