Technology

Definition of Technology Technology is a very hard thing to define because it is such a large area. Technology - is the use of knowledge to turn resources into goods and services that society needs and wants.

Technology is for humans All the inventions in existence were created by humans to make life easier or better. Humans create technologies for humans

Technology satisfies needs and wants Needs are the basic things humans cannot live without. Wants are things that humans like because they tend to make our lives more convenient.

Knowledge is Information Knowledge often comes from within a person. People use knowledge and information when using or creating technology. Information can come from many sources, like books, magazines, news papers, news on TV or Radio, and digital sources like Internet, and CD ROM Encyclopedias

Resources of Technology Resources are the many things we use when working with technology. Some of the resources are things like: materials, tools and machines, energy, capital (money), people, time, and of course information.

And there is more

The Four Types of Technologies Communication/Information Technologies Biological Technologies Physical Technologies Transportation Technologies

Communication/Information Technologies These are technologies that have to do with the communication and sharing of information. Examples include: Printed material like books, magazines, news papers, printed packages Electronic media like radio, television, telephone, video, etc Digital media like computers, Internet, CD ROM, DVD, etc.

Physical Technology Systems that are required for you to obtain the goods and services you want and need.

Physical Technologies Manufacturing Technology Think of all the machines making all the products that we like to buy Construction The assembly of buildings, bridges, roads, and more ….

More Physical Technologies Energy Technologies production and distribution (like power plants making electricity, like solar energy)

Transportation Technologies Devices that transport people and their goods (land, air, space) Examples: Cars, trains, planes, motorcycles, elevators, conveyor belts, assembly lines, pipe lines, …….

Biological Technologies Bio technologies are technologies that enhance or sustain life. These technologies usually have something to do with agricultural or health and medical applications.

Agricultural means farming and raising food Agricultural means farming and raising food. Ag technologies include: plant grafting, hydroponics growing, using pesticides and herbicides, and more

Medical technologies can include medicine, and all the technologies in a Doctors office or in the hospital.

Hopefully you will continually use technology to gain a better working understanding of Technology
