Presentation transcript:

13-Jul-07 Pesticide Usage Surveys Examples of calculations: doses – area treated

13-Jul-07 Name of the presentation 2 Using plant protection registers (Log books) When they exist log books on pesticide treatments kept by farmers can improve the quality of the answers and the speed of the interview. Log books should be designed as to be immediately useable by interviewers.

13-Jul-07 Name of the presentation 3 Data should be recorded by parcel Ideally data on pesticide treatments should be recorded by parcel. The parcel is also the most appropriate sampling unit for PUS.

13-Jul-07 Name of the presentation 4 Example of book keeping (Wheat) Identification of the farm: –Name of the farm: EXAMPLE –Reference of the farm: XXX –Location: XXX –Other information: Information on the crop: WHEAT –Crop year (year of harvest): 2006 –Total area cultivated: ha –Number of parcels: 3

13-Jul-07 Name of the presentation 5 Report all treatments Including field preparation Or quantity in kg or L + Quantity of seed/m² Or sowing density + weight of 1000 seeds (ex. 50 gr/1000 seeds) = 150 kg seeds/ha If not known can be reported as included in the seed

13-Jul-07 Name of the presentation 6

13-Jul-07 Name of the presentation 7 Local treatments will be distributed on the whole area of the parcel 0.4l/ha x 4 ha = 1.6 l applied on 12.2 ha The parcel is the basic unit: These areas will be used for the calculation of both - Total area treated - Basic Area treated

13-Jul-07 Name of the presentation 8 From doses to quantities of products Quantities to be reported to the whole parcel area

13-Jul-07 Name of the presentation 9 Convert products into active substances Quantities reported to the area of the parcel Convert products into active substances

13-Jul-07 Name of the presentation 10 Active substance quantity per parcel

13-Jul-07 Name of the presentation 11 Values to report in reporting format

13-Jul-07 Name of the presentation 12

13-Jul-07 Name of the presentation 13

13-Jul-07 Name of the presentation 14 Average Number of Applications Is calculated dividing the Formulation Area Treated by the Basic Area Treated for each Active Substance.

13-Jul-07 Name of the presentation 15 Reporting format
