ICEL The Roots of the Christian life Colossians 3: 1-4 Ishak Ghattas 12 April 2015

ICEL Colossians 3: 1-4 (New International Version) 1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

ICEL Introduction The Christian life is a life lived out on earth but hidden with Christ in God

ICEL I. As Christians we are to set our hearts on heavenly things v.1 1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. It means to desire and to strive for the heavenly things Because we are raised with Christ Because we are seated with Christ in heaven

ICEL II. As Christians we are to set our minds on heavenly things v.2 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. It is not only to desire ‘heavenly things’ but must think ‘heavenly things’ Because we died for the earthly things Because our life is hidden with Christ

ICEL III. As Christians we are to live differently than our former life vs 3,4 3 For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. Because we live on earth but we do not belong to earth Because our outward life should reflect our inward experience with God Because we are expected a new life

ICEL Conclusion The Christian life is a life lived out on earth but hidden with Christ in God. It must therefore give attention not only to the inward experience with God but also to the outward relations on earth.
