Use One Hundred to Find Percents

Liz and her twin brother Nate like trading cards. Some are sports cards (baseball, football, and auto racing), some are comic book cards, and some are game cards. Together, they have 1,000 cards. Liz has separated the cards into 10 sets of 100, so that each set has the same number of each type of card. As you answer the following questions, think about how you determined your answer.

1. Each set has 10 auto racing cards. What percent of a set is auto racing cards? What percent of the 1,000 cards is auto racing cards?

ANSWER % of a set 1% of the 1,000 cards

2. For each set, 23% are comic book cards. How many comic book cards are in each set? How many comic book cards do Liz and Nate have in all?

ANSWER comic book cards in each set 230 comic book cards in all

3. Of the 1,000 cards, 340 are baseball cards. What percent of the 1,000 cards is baseball cards? What percent of each set is baseball cards?

ANSWER 3. 34% are baseball cards 3.4 % percent of each set

4. There are 8 football cards in each set of 100, so 8% of each set are football cards. Nate combined five sets into a group of 500, so he could have half of all the cards. A. How can you find the number of football cards in each set of 500 cards? In all 1,000 cards?

ANSWER 5 * 8 = 40 cards in a set of * 8 = 80 cards in a set of 1,000

B. How can you find the percent of football cards in each set of 500 cards? In all 1,000 cards?

ANSWER Both would still be 8%!!!!

Liz still has sets of 100. In each set, there are 25 game cards. A. How many sets would she need to combine to have exactly 100 game cards?

ANSWER 4 more sets

B. Of the 25 game cards in each set, 12 cards are one type of game. How many would there be in the combined 100 game cards? What percent of the 100 game cards represents this game?

ANSWER 12 cards 12% represents this game
