Easter Island Who made the giant statues called the Moai, that appeared on the island mysteriously: a civilization that disappeared, a UFO, or did it have something to do with Atlantis? Ivy B

History of Mystery Easter Island is located in the southern Pacific Ocean near Chile. It is located 27 degrees south of the equator. It was said to have been formed by volcanic eruptions in the ocean .

History of Easter Island Easter Island is famous for mysterious giant statues of human heads called the Moai. Each weighs about 270 tons and are almost 30 feet tall. Hundreds of these statues can be found all over the island.

More Background Nobody knew how the Moai got there or who created them There was a civilization there called the Rapa Nui that disappeared. Some people thought they created the Moai.

Science Fiction Theory One theory is that UFOs could of made the Moai because they are very heavy and people think that only UFOs could move them.

Scientific Explanation Another theory is that people in canoes followed stars, the colors of the sky, the ocean’s rhythms, the shape of clouds, and birds flying. They arrived around 400 A.D. They could not leave the island and were stuck there.

My Reasoned Judgment I think that the scientific theory is more believable. No one has proven UFOs are real and people have found things that prove people were at the island. I agree with the scientific theory because people have come to islands on boats before.
