Presentation transcript:

Week 13 Introduction to compiling an energy efficiency audit report and Writing the utility analysis section

Compiling the Report Understand the uses and components of an energy audit report Understand the building the structure of an energy audit report through assessment of client needs Write a facility description and end-use breakdown Format the utility analysis section including comparison of data to national or local benchmarks Analyze utility data graphs for trends and problems Compare calculated with actual energy use Format and write the end use breakdown section Review computer report writing tools and APA report format

Sections of a Level 1 Energy Audit Collect data through both accounting and an audit of your school, Analyze the data from the audit and tracking of existing usage (this will include graphing, correcting for climate and building usage, and calculating the economic cost-benefit of different alternatives), Make recommendations based on your findings, Write a report of your findings, Present your findings to customer and, lastly, Evaluate what recommendations are adopted and how much energy and money is saved.

Never Forget Customer Each step of the way through the auditing process be sure what you are doing and what you are proposing meets the customers needs This is accomplished by staying in contact with the customer throughout the process and asking questions about parameters and funding availability Be sure not to propose something that is completely out of the question – wasted time

History Write up a section about the history of the facility, major upgrades that may have taken place, or major failures What is the current state of systems and how much (as a percent of the whole amount) does each system use?

Benchmarks Compare the utility usage with similar facilities of similar size and use Compare with facilities in the same geographic region (Hawaii) Use standardized measure such as kW/ton, watts per square foot and Btu per degree day etc…

Figure and Tables Present the distributions of energy use over time, compare month to the same month over 5 years, if data is available. Use excel as to quickly convert to another kind of graphic display upon request.

Reporting Use instruments and EMS to verify meter data Point out existing problems, current and future degradation and equipment failures Make sure all end use breakdown graphics and usage graphics are explained, given numbers and referred to in the text of the report Show what the utility usage (energy and dollars) will look like after suggestions have been implemented

American Psychological Association Follow all APA documentation in reference section All tables and figures are numbered in the order they appear All tables and figures are given full description and referred to in the text Include a list of acronyms (if used) Include a list of tables and figures If many technical terms are used – define them in a glossary
