What is punctuation? Punctuation refers to the spacing and marks we use to help us read correctly and understand what we are reading.

Punctuation Marks There are many different punctuation marks. Knowing how to use these marks will help you write more clearly. Knowing how to say them will help you read more effectively.

Saying Punctuation A space between letters tells you that you are at the beginning or end of a word. When you come to a punctuation mark, you need to know how to modulate (or change) your voice slightly. With some punctuation, you will raise (  ) your voice. With other punctuation you will lower it (  ) or pause (II).

Saying Punctuation – A Guide

Saying Punctuation – You Try! 1. Ouch! That looks like it hurts. 2. What happened? 3. “I didn’t put sunscreen on my feet,” the boy said. 4. Many people forget to put sunscreen on their feet, so this is a good lesson for everyone. 5. Next time you are in the sun … remember to do these three things: wear sunscreen, wear sunglasses to protect your eyes, and drink plenty of water.
