The Ozone Layer Done By: Yrmila Lalloo 1J

What is the Ozone Layer? The ozone layer is a relatively thin layer of gas in the earth’s atmosphere that protects us from the harmful UV rays (ultra violet rays) that comes from the sun.

The Importance of the Ozone Layer The Ozone Layer is very important to us. It protects from the Ultra Violet Rays, which are very harmful to us, and can cause a number of health effects towards us. We should all be appreciative of the Ozone Layer by preventing it from depletion and damage. Without the Ozone Layer, life on earth would not be the same. The Ozone Layer acts a major role on the earth.

Depletion of the Ozone Layer The Ozone Layer is currently damaged. It has a hole which was caused by a number of reasons. Some of the main reasons are: the use of some aerosol sprays (air freshener, hair spray etc.) which contains CFCs (Chlorofluorocarbons) and is dangerous for the Ozone Layer; the release of chemicals from factories into the atmosphere; some fire extinguishers which contains halon which has bromine in it, is also very dangerous to the Ozone Layer.

Solutions to prevent further damage of the Ozone Layer Some solutions as to which we can all partake in are; encourage family, friends and neighbors to refrain from the use of aerosol sprays which contains CFCs, and use Ozone friendly products; convince factories not to release their chemicals into the air; use fire extinguishers that contains water, carbon dioxide or dry chemicals.

SAVE THE OZONE LAYER!!
