Sermon: The Power of the Gospel Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:1-4

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 ( NASB ) 1Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 2by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.

1 Corinthians 15:1-4 ( NASB ) 3For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

Three reasons I need the gospel made known to me. So I know if I have _______ it. So I know where I _____. So I know that by which I am _________. received stand being saved “For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the ____________ of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” Romans 1:16 power (dunamis)

3For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, Wherein lies the power of the Gospel? 1. The power of the _______ in the gospel. PERSON

The O.T. scriptures cover over 1,000 years with over 330 prophecies written over 500 years before the birth of Jesus, yet every prophecy was fulfilled in one Man, Jesus the Christ. The probability of that happening is 1 in 10 to the 17th power. Wherein lies the power of the Gospel? 1. The power of the _______ in the gospel. PERSON

“Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures” Wherein lies the power of the Gospel? 2. The power of the _____ in the gospel. cross

Wherein lies the power of the Gospel? 2. The power of the _____ in the gospel. cross Central to the message of the gospel is the manner of Christ’s death and the purpose of His death. He died upon a cross 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us- for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree” – Galatians 3:13 ( NASB )

Wherein lies the power of the Gospel? 2. The power of the _____ in the gospel. cross Central to the message of the gospel is the manner of Christ’s death and the purpose of His death. He died upon a cross He died for our sins… as my substitute!

The gospel applies the power of Jesus’ resurrection to our lives in two ways. Wherein lies the power of the Gospel? 3. The power of the __________ in the gospel. resurrection To give us life after birth! 5even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), Ephesians 2:5 ( NASB )

The gospel applies the power of Jesus’ resurrection to our lives in two ways. Wherein lies the power of the Gospel? 3. The power of the __________ in the gospel. resurrection To give us life after birth! 20 But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep. 1 Corinthians 15:20 ( NASB ) To give us life after death!

Either His claims are TRUE or His claims are FALSE. If Jesus knew His claims were FALSE… He made a deliberate misrepresentation…. He is a LIAR If Jesus did not know His claims were FALSE… He was DELUDED…He is a LUNATIC CONCLUSION The gospel claims as to who Jesus is and what He has done leave us with only two alternatives:

If His claims are TRUE… He is LORD If He is LORD… Then we are left with only two alternatives… RECEIVE HIM or REJECT HIM CONCLUSION The gospel claims as to who Jesus is and what He has done leave us with only two alternatives:
