Women in Islam The Hijab

Hijab The word hijab comes from an Arabic word that means “____________________.” Today hijab refers to the modest covering of a Muslim woman.

There are no fixed standard as to the style of dress or type of clothing that Muslim women must wear. BUT… There are some common beliefs about modesty standards.

Hijab

Jilbab In addition to a veil, some Muslim women may chose to wear a body-length outer garment called a jilbab. Essentially, a jilbab is an ankle-length skirt. The loose-fitting item covers the whole body, except the head, hands and feet.

Chador Outer garment worn by women Chador is mostly used by the practicing religious women in Iran. A chador covers the wearer from head to toe, leaving only her hands and part, or all, of her face exposed.
