Reputation RIT was ranked in the first annual Top Gaming Colleges survey. Recognized as one of America’s 100 Greenest universities RIT consistently ranks among the 15 largest private universities in the U.S. Among Top Design schools in Business Week’s initial Best Design Schools survey #7 in Regional Universities in the North. Their mascot is a tiger.

Size of University The university occupies 1,300 acres in Rochester, the third largest city in New York state. It contains 110,000 worldwide alumni.

Location RIT is located in 1 Lomb Memorial Drive, Rochester, New York metropolitan area. In the town of Henrietta.

Selectivity RIT is somewhat selective. 58% of the applicants are admitted. SAT scores require a 1550 out of 2400 or higher. ACT scores require a 22 out of 36 or better. You also need at least a 3.0 GPA of higher and need to have an A average.

Accreditation The Rochester Institute of Technology is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education or MSCHE. This accreditation body requires institutions to meet the Characteristics of Excellence standards related to best practices in higher education. To remain accredited, institutions undergo a self-study every 10 years and submit a periodic report or PPR at the 5 year point between self-studies. RIT’s latest self- study was in 2007 and submitted its PPR in June Its next site visit is in 2017.

Academic Facilities RIT has invested more than $300 million in the renovation and construction of new academic and student life facilities over the past few years to accomplish a remarkable transformation. There are many outstanding facilities in the campus such as George H. Clark Gymnasium James E. Special Programs RIT is the host of the Air Force ROTC Detachment 538 “Blue Tigers” and the Army ROTC “Tiger Battalion”. The Microelectronic Engineering program, created 1982 and the only ABET- accredited undergraduate program in the country, was the nation’s first Bachelor of Science program specializing in the fabrication of Semi conductor devices and integrated circuits.

Student Body Diversity

Unique Features One of RIT's unique features is the large presence of deaf and hard-of- hearing students, who make up 8.8% of the student body. The National Technical Institute for the Deaf or NTID, one of RIT's nine colleges, provides interpreting and captioning services to students for classes and events. Many courses' lectures at RIT are interpreted into American Sign Language for the benefit of hard-of-hearing and deaf students. Other unique features include laser optics laboratory observatory photography darkrooms electronic prepress publishing equipment blacksmithing area student-operated restaurant microelectronic, telecommunications, and computer engineering facilities
