Lesson 4: Rocks and their Classifications

What is a Rock? A rock is a solid, naturally occurring substance made up of one or more types of minerals.

Our planet is made of many types of rocks. These rocks formed over long periods of time, but all rocks are not formed the same way.

Rocks are classified, or grouped, based on how they are formed.

There are three major classifications of rocks: Igneous Rocks Sedimentary Rocks Metamorphic Rocks

Lesson 4: Rocks Key Questions: 1) What is a rock? 2) How are rocks and minerals similar? How are they different?
