SURVEY ROUND-TABLE FORUM

How does your county work with survey data?  Surveyors work separate from Design and supply their end product to Design  Design takes Surveyor’s data and produces own end product  Intermediary Technician filters data between Survey and Design  Other work flow types

What services are provided by the Surveyors?  Data Collection to Topographic Base Map to Surface Model  Control for Horizontal/Vertical Datum  Rights-of-way (including property boundaries and PLSS corners),  Construction Staking  Construction quantities and as-builts

Who provides quality control?  Who checks the Design Plans?  Who checks the Surveyor’s data?  How do you deal with plan changes due to construction issues?  Who provides project Construction Management?

Horizontal and vertical datum  Differences in datum (see charts) Horizontal: Local, NAD83(1991), State Plane Vertical: Assumed, NGVD29, NAVD88  Control settings for transfers into Civil 3d Where to find all settings When to “convert”  Survey Foot vs. International Foot Know the difference

Symbol Libraries and Points  Coordination of symbols/blocks From other systems to Civil 3d From Civil 3d to other systems  Does Design need points from Survey? No - only a Surface Model Yes – how to transfer (LandXML, ASCII text)

Survey Details by County  What equipment is used? Total Stations, Data Collectors, GPS, Digital Levels  What software is used? Field data reduction, Traverse processing, GPS processing, Levels processing  What method is used for Data Transfer?  What products are provided? Topographic base maps, surface models, Pothole/Utility Locate maps, Material volumes
