This presentation gives a brief description of the American National Biography Online It tells you what the American National Biography Online is how it can help you how to look for information in it The presentation will take about 4 minutes

The landmark American National Biography offers portraits of more than 18,700 men and women -- from all eras and walks of life - whose lives have shaped the American nation. It was first published in 1999 in 24 volumes. The online edition is now updated every 6 months with new biographies and revisions of previously published entries. Hundreds of biographies are added every year.

To search for a particular person, simply type the name into the box at the top right. mark twain

The left column in the biography contains links to other related biographies… Notice that you can print and any article. You can also copy and paste citation information easily.

You can also see related entries from the Oxford Companion to United States History.

You can search for people who were involved in a particular field, or from a particular state. Click on the Search tab.
