Coral Reefs in Hawaii Melissa Nakamura ETEC 750B February 25, 2012

What animal is this? Where does this animal live? Is this animal native to Hawaii? Is this animal federally protected? The Hawaiian Monk Seal Hawaii Yes Yes, although their population continue to decline. Click on the question to learn more about this animal.

Non-native species are species that live outside of its native geographical region. Introduced by humans, they are either intentionally or accidentally introduced to a region. The effects have shown both beneficial and harmful to the geographical region. Which of the following species are native to Hawaii? The bullethead parrotfish is native to Hawaii but can also be found in the Indian Ocean, Pacific Ocean and Red Sea. They are easily spotted by their “bullet” like head and sharp teeth. Taape is a non-native species to Hawaii. It was introduced to Hawaii in the 1950s in hope to be a popular game fish. The taape never established as a game fish but have established itself in Hawaii. Bullethead ParrotfishBlue Line Snapper Click here for guidance

Click on the box next to the correct symbiotic relationship shown in the video. Mutualism Commensal Parasitic Correct! Both the turtle and cleaner wrasse benefits from this relationship No, this is when one species benefit while the other is not harmed No, this is when one species harms another

Click on the correct response to the question below. Which of the following industry is NOT affected by the existence of coral reefs? Click on the for feedback response. Real Estate Industry Fishing industry Shipping industry Marine recreational industry
