Cnidarians Octavio’s Book Cnidarians

Cnidarians are Invertebrates (no backbones)

The hydras and jellyfishes are cnidarians

The jellyfish can be a few inches in width and the largest can be over 6 feet

Cnidarians are aquatic animals, mostly marine

The anemone and the red coral are cnidarians

The body of a cnidarians is a sack with an opening.

This opening is surrounded by many poisonous tentacles

The Portuguese Man of War is a colony of poisonous cnidarians

Some cnidarians have the Medusa form, and living free

In the medusa form the tentacles dangle down

The sea nettles have medusa form

Others cnidarians have the Polyp form, and living in colonies

Polyps form is when the cnidarians are connected to the bottom

The brain coral and the pillar coral have the polyps form

The coral polyps form reefs that can stretch for thousand of miles

The largest coral reef is the Great Barrier Reef at the northeast of Australia

The coral reef are the home of an amazing variety of animals

There are more than 11,000 species of Cnidarians
