Lion Dance, also known as Playing Lion, is a traditional sport activity and a folk art that imitates the movements of lions. In China, people believe that the lion is an auspicious animal and that Lion Dance would bring them good luck.

Therefore, Lion Dance is performed accompanied with sounds of firecrackers and gongs and drums at the Spring Festival and other ceremonies.

There are two types of Lion Dance, they are South Lion and North Lion. The North Lion type is popular in northern China, while the South type is popular in southern China, especially in Guangdong Province. North Lion South Lion

During a Lion Dance, lettuce is offered to a lion, and a Big Head Buddha start the Lion Dance by leading the lion to pluck the lettuce which is hung high at the front door of the shop or a house. It is also called “Cai Ching”. It is always performed during Chinese New Year.

Dragon Dance is also known as "Playing dragon lantern" and "Dance of dragon lantern", with the "Dragon" made of grasses, bamboos and cloth as the main prop. Dragon dance is very popular around China during the Spring Festival and the Mid- Autumn Festival.

Dragon in Chinese culture is a symbol of fortune, nobility, bravery and, especially, power. During festivals, people perform dragon dance to pray for the blessing of the dragon and a good harvest.

Dragon Dance is very popular among the Chinese people. Presently, Dragon Dance has attracted the worldwide interest as a sport for exercising.
