The expenditure on social assistance remained almost the same in 2014 In 2014 gross expenditure on social assistance totalled EUR million. Social assistance expenditure increased by 1.2 per cent in current prices and by 0.1 per cent in real prices. Social assistance expenditure in current prices increased the most in Ostrobothnia (5.9%), Åland (5.8%), Pirkanmaa (5.6%), and Uusimaa (4.4%). Expenditure decreased in North Karelia (-16.8%), Pohjois-Savo (-6.5%), Lapland (- 6.3%), and Central Finland (-4.4%). Per-capita expenditure on social assistance was on average €136; it was the highest in Uusimaa (€203 per capita) and the lowest in Åland (€53 per capita), Central Ostrobothnia (€61 per capita) and Satakunta (€78 per capita).
