Presentation transcript:

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Lessons for Scouting 2012 sees 60 years since her accession. What can we learn from Her Majesty to help us in Scouting live up to our Promise and Law? Words from the oath of coronation:- Will you solemnly promise and swear to govern the Peoples of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the Union of South Africa, Pakistan and Ceylon, and of your Possessions and other Territories to any of them belonging or pertaining, according to their respective laws and customs? Queen: I solemnly promise so to do.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Lessons for Scouting Promise – Duty to God and Queen Do our lives reflect the love and goodness of God to others? Do we develop in others a sense of wonder and awe at the presence of God in the world around them? Are we good members of our local, national and international communities?

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Lessons for Scouting Trusted:- A new survey has revealed that the Queen is the most trustworthy public figure in Britain. 53% of those polled said they believed the Queen would keep her word, a higher figure than any other person and far higher than any politician. Are we people who can be trusted? Scouts Honour!

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Lessons for Scouting Loyalty – When Princess Elizabeth was 21 years of age she said, in a speech:- “I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great imperial family to which we all belong.” As Queen she has kept that promise and been loyal to it. We pray that we might be loyal in return.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Lessons for Scouting Friendly and considerate. The number of charities that the Queen and her family are patrons to, including Scouting, illustrate her friendly outreach to others, especially those in need. We may not be asked to be patrons, but we are faced with people everyday who need our help.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Lessons for Scouting World-wide family of scouts As Head of the Commonwealth the Queen has visited and been visited by most of the countries in the world where scouting is present. We must remember that though we act locally for the most part, we should always think globally.

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Lessons for Scouting Courage The Queen has showed her courage on many occasions, not least when Princess Dianna, The Queen’s Mother And her younger sister Princess Margaret died. We encourage scouts to show Courage and should lead them by example

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Lessons for Scouting Good use of time and careful of possessions and property There are probably not many people in this country who work as many hours as Her Majesty. How well do we spend the precious time God has given us?

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Lessons for Scouting Has respect for self and others. “I think she's a loving mother, wife, and grandmother who has done her best to uphold the respect and reputation of her country. She's grown into a beautiful older woman with experience and youth still in her face. Carry on Queen Elizabeth!” Daily Mail online USA Journalist Tracy Bond

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee A Scout Prayer for the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II Loving God, we rejoice in this 60th Anniversary of the Coronation of our Patron, Queen Elizabeth II. We thank you for the example of ‘Duty’ that our Queen has demonstrated in her sixty years as our Queen. Help us in our turn to do our Duty, to God and to the Queen. Keep Queen Elizabeth II in your loving care, now and forever. ‘Long live the Queen’. Amen. Fr John Seddon
