The People of The Arctic The Arctic People By Simon, Julia and Tasos

Transportation When the Inuit moved they had to carry hunting boats as well AS Boats for their families. The boats they used were called kayaks.

Tools The Inuit hunted with lace, throwing boards low. These boards have splinted staves. They also used bows and arrows. They used the bow and arrow for hunting animals like caribou and moose.

Family life Men’s Role: Men hunted for animals and made tools. They also played games and made music and made homes and shelters. Women’s role: women took care of children, made clothes and cooked.

Food The Inuit people ate meat and blubber. The basic foods were seals, salmon, and berries. They drank melted snow or ice.

Clothing The Inuit people wore pants, parkers, stockings, snow goggles, necklaces, and headbands. The materials they used were a ulu for scraping hides and ivory needles. They made clothing and cases from caribou skin.

Beliefs The Inuit believed there was a special power or force in the heavens and that there were spirits who some times helped people and sometimes tricked them. The Inuit believed every thing had a soul and when a person or a animal died it went into an other body.

Homes and Shelter Winter homes were igloos. First they cut snow to make straight snow blocks. They mostly cut the snow with knives made of whale bones. The Inuit covered their igloo with skins from the inside.

Homes and Shelter Summer homes were much easier than winter homes. Summer houses were made out of skins. eastern Inuit hung their skins from a central ridge pole; those of the West hung them from a standing pole to make a cone shaped dwelling.
