Lesson 10: Equations of Lines Grade 10 Applied Math

Learning Goals 0 I will successfully solve various linear equations 0 Knowing where to sub the given values 0 Understanding the situation/equation 0 Isolating for the unknown variable 0 I will successfully apply what I’ve learned about solving linear equations to help me solve word problems involving linear relationships 0 Identifying the variables 0 Therefore statements

Learning Goals 0 I will successfully calculate the slope of a line using the formula for slope when given two points that lie along the same line 0 Use slope formula (given) 0 Identify and label x and y values of the coordinates 0 Subtract THEN divide 0 NO DECIMALS!!!! Keep fractions in lowest terms 0 If you can, state as a whole number 0 I will successfully create an equation of a line when given two points that lie along the same line 0 Find the slope (m value) 0 Use the m value, and an x & y from ONE of the coordinates, to sub into y=mx+b 0 Solve for b 0 Restate equation with m and b value

Learning Goals 0 I will successfully create an equation of a line when given slope and y-intercept, parallel, and slope and a random point that lies along the line 0 Sub in m and b values into y=mx+b 0 Parallel lines have the same slope!!! 0 Sub in m, x and y value, solve for b then restate equation 0 I will successfully convert from standard form of a linear equation to slope y-intercept form 0 Isolate for y (y on the left, everything else on the right) 0 If y has a coefficient (number out front), isolate for y, then divide both sides by the coefficient

Learning Goals 0 I will successfully calculate the x- and y-intercepts when given an equation in standard form 0 X-int has y = zero 0 Sub in y=0, solve for x 0 State as a coordinate (#, 0) 0 y-int has x = zero 0 Sub in x=0, solve for y 0 State as a coordinate (0, #) 0 I will successfully graph a linear relationship when given the x- and y-intercepts 0 Plot the two points, and connect with straight line

Assigned Seatwork 0 Complete any questions from unit 3 that you have not done yet 0 Anchor Chart 0 Review pages at end of package
