Introducing the "Gold" Logo Program A new qualification level for the Windows Logo Program The new level has a temporary placeholder name: "Gold" The former “logo” level has a new placeholder name: "Silver" The "Gold" program will recognize products that deliver the premium Longhorn experience New level created in response to partner feedback and Microsoft improvement efforts Need to differentiate products Relevance of requirements to an evolving industry Harmonize the different Microsoft logo programs

“Gold” Logo Relation Between "Silver" and "Gold" Logo "Silver" is the first logo qualification level Includes subcomponent levels “signature” and “Driver Quality Signature” (DQS) "Gold" builds upon "Silver" "Gold" level requirements are a superset of "Silver" requirements “Signature” DQS " "Silver" Logo

Goals of the “Silver” Logo Program The goals of the "Silver" Logo program are Promote reliability and stability e.g., no memory pool corruption Compatibility with OS and industry standards PnP and bus specification compliance Functional capability Ethernet adaptor operates as described in the DDK Hardware evolves along with OS architectural advances New driver models, DEP, 64-bit The program is meant to be inclusive

Goals of the "Gold" Logo Program Provide means to differentiate premium products New marketing incentives are included with the "Gold" logo See session “Windows Longhorn Logo Program: The Next Generation of ‘Designed for Windows’ ” Distinguish between the “works well” product and those that deliver the best-in-class, premium experience "Gold" logo products will meet a higher bar for performance and functionality Reduce the multiple similar looking logos to a very few Simplification requested by industry partners Messaging and look will be similar for SW applications and HW products

Goals of the "Gold" Logo Program (cont.) Expand scope to include PC Ecosystem "Silver" logo program focused on PC centric products "Gold" logo program extends the “Silver” logo program to include products that interact with the PC More relevant and responsive to industry development cycles

Implementation of the “Gold” Program

Implementation of "Gold" Logo Program "Silver" Logo program implemented the same as former “logo” level The "Gold" program recognizes partners who invest in development & marketing to deliver premium products Many products will not meet the higher bar of the premium requirements "Gold" logo will not be available for all product categories "Gold" program requirements will be updated frequently In order to be more responsive to industry development cycles, the requirements will be updated at least once per year The "Gold" Logo program only applies to Longhorn

Testing and Administration – Testing and Administration – Preliminary Administration is expected to be similar to Windows XP logo Online submission Processed by WHQL Testing will be an extension to the WDK The WDK is the test vehicle for "Silver" logo WDK will also be used to validate "Gold" requirements "Gold" level testing may include testing in addition to WDK Audit process Use of specialized industry specific test equipment Third party qualification Proposed means to identify "Gold" compliant products Digital signature with "Gold" attribute Distinct placement on Windows Market Place Distinct logo artwork
