The dinosaur I am studying is called the Plateosaurus. It’s name means flat lizard. The Plateosaurus was a big dinosaur because it was 8 metres long. It had a long neck and a small head for the size of its heavy body. The Plateosaurus walked on four legs but it was light enough to stand easily or run on its two back legs.

The Plateosaurus lived in the Triassic period about 200 million years ago. Fossils have been found in Germany, France, Switzerland and England. They lived in small groups.

The Plateosaurus sometimes ate small animals, but mostly ate leaves and flowers. When is ate, it used its huge hands to pull tree branches down into its mouth. It’s teeth were a special shape to cut through tough plants.
