Presentation transcript:

A group of four friends went for a picnic and visited a zoo.

We have never seen these animals at our place

Did you find a large variety in these organisms? All Organisms Differ From Each Other In Variety Of Ways Food They Eat Place Where They Live (Surrounding) All Organisms Differ From Each Other In Variety Of Ways Food They Eat Place Where They Live (Surrounding)

A habitat is where an animal finds the food, water, and shelter it needs to live.

HABITAT TERRESTRIAL HABITAT TERRESTRIAL HABITAT AQUATIC HABITAT AQUATIC HABITAT  Deserts  Mountain regions  Grasslands  Oceans  Ponds and lakes

TERRESTRIAL HABITAT DESERT GRASSLAND MOUNTAIN

AQUATIC HABITAT LAKEOCEAN

DESERT

 There is very little water available in the desert  It is very hot in the day time and very cold at night  Organisms: camel, rat, snake DESERT

A camel can survive without water for several days How???

 They excrete small amount of urine, their dung is dry  They do not sweat Since they lose very little water they can live for many days without water

 They have long legs which keep their bodies away from heat of the sand  They have long eyelashes which keep sand out of the their eyes.

So, these things helps camel to survive in the desert

What about desert plants?

Desert plants  Store water in tissues  They have spines  They have thick leaves to retain water.

very cold and windy habitat snowfall takes place in winter in many areas organisms: snow leopard, yak, mountain goats

bear walrus Snow leopard Mountain goat

bear  snow leopards have thick fur on the body including feet and toes to protect its feet when it walks on snow.

 mountain goats have strong hooves for running up the rocky slopes of the mountains. MOUNTAIN GOAT MOUNTAIN GOAT hooves

 Animals have thick skin or fur to protect them from cold  yaks have long hair to keep them warm.

GRASSLANDS

 Its light brown colour helps it to hide in dry grasslands.  Eyes in front of face allow it to identify location of its prey.  They have long claws in their front legs that can be withdrawn inside the toes.

 Have strong teeth for chewing hard plant stems.  Have long ears to hear movement of predators.

AQUATIC HABITAT LAKES AND PONDOCEAN

They have streamlined body to help them to move easily in water They have gills to help them use oxygen dissolved in water.

Squid Octopus SSquids and octopus stay deeper in the ocean, near the seabed.  they catch the pray which moves around them. ddo not have streamlined shapes

When they move in water they make their body shapes. streamlined

The dolphins and whales do not have gills. How do they breathe? They breathe in air through nostrils or blowholes which are located on the upper parts of their heads.

EVALUATION Fill in the blanks. 1)The presence of specific features, which enable a plant or an animal to live in a particular habitat, is called 2)The habitats of the plants and animals that live on land are called
