What is the holiday? “Chuseok” is like “Thanksgiving Day” We say another name is the Harvest Moon Festival [ 한가위 ( Hangawi) ] “Chuseok” means harvesting many grains and giving thanks to our ancestors

Who celebrates? All the people in Korea. (China and Japan also celebrate the moon festival but their events are different from Korea.)

When is it celebrated? Chuseok is on the 15 th of august by the lunar calendar(Chinese calendar). Ex) My mother’s birthday on the lunar calendar is September. 23 rd. So My mother’s birthday next year is October. 24 th. This is it !

Where is it celebrated? Some people go to their relative’s house but some people just stay home.

Why is it celebrated? Chuseok is a very important Korean event because we meet family and celebrate together. We give thanks for our ancestry. Chuseok moon is very big so we welcome the first moon.

How is it celebrated? On Chuseok morning we hold a memorial service for our ancestors. We eat rice cakes steamed on a layer of pine needles. We play many games. (ex) Ssireum (Korean traditional wrestling), Korean circle dance.

summary Chuseok is family holiday when every one is happy. It has many meanings for our ancestors such as, wisdom, bonding, giving thanks and respect for our ancestors. 정현의 미소 ㅋㅋㅋ
