Adobe Photoshop An Introduction to Digital Photography

Why Go Digital?  No costs for film, chemicals, paper.  No need for darkroom space or darkroom technician.  Immediate access.  Interface with computer publishing tools.

Is There a Downside?  High initial expense.  May be less image quality than film.  Archiving file format for future use is impossible to anticipate.  Complexity of equipment.

Types of Digital Cameras  Fixed-location studio camera (advertising) $50,000 + High-resolution image files ( MB)  Print photojournalism camera $5,000 + Good resolution (5 -15 MB)  New-media capable camera $700 + Resolution adequate for professional web use, CD-ROMs, or prints to 8 x 10 (around 5 MB).  Amateur camera $200+ Resolution adequate for web use, or snapshot-size prints.
