IRSO 2015 October 2015 La Jolla, CA, USA Vision for JCOMMOPS JCOMMOPS occupies a unique place as the focal point for the practical coordination of the in-situ ocean observing system defined by JCOMM. Its role consists of the following core objectives: to assist in the implementation and deployment of the observing networks through close interaction with programme managers and platform operators, and through Capacity Development and outreach; to assist in establishing, maintaining and verifying mechanisms for the timely exchange of data and metadata, including the facilitation of quality control and archival functions; to develop the consistent set of tools needed to monitor the status of the observing system and its attendant data and metadata distribution, so as to identify action areas and improve the overall effectiveness and development of the system.

IRSO 2015 October 2015 La Jolla, CA, USA

IRSO 2015 October 2015 La Jolla, CA, USA JCOMMOPS Core Observing Networks

IRSO 2015 October 2015 La Jolla, CA, USA Cooperation with IRSO Gather cruise plans, well in advance, for internal use in e.g. deployment planning Gather ship specifications, to identify suitable ships for ad-hoc operations, e.g. mooring work Integrate more IRSO ships in the work of the SOT program, for RT meteorological data Investigate how other data (e.g. CTD) could be made available in RT (done by e.g. UK)

IRSO 2015 October 2015 La Jolla, CA, USA Cooperation with IRSO Good progress with UNOLS, data are now available to JCOMMOPS and already used with success Based on this, similar and ideally automated information from other ship operators now needed Security requirements are respected, and data are not available on e.g. public websites JCOMMOPS has a UN/JCOMM mandate and resources for this task (other initiatives do/did not) JCOMMOPS in return could provide tools and statistics to IRSO community as needed

IRSO 2015 October 2015 La Jolla, CA, USA New JCOMMOPS Website Launch by the end of the year, tests underway Revolutionary tools in OS like environment Highest interoperability with API
