PAIMS/PAIUCC Collaborative PAIU.net goal

Today’s goals Understand PAIU.net Understand what we are charged to do Reconvene in theme groups Incorporate ideas into Action Plans Utilize Keystone Commons to collect today’s activities and future resources

PAIUnet PAIUnet is a statewide, high-speed educational network that enables educators and students throughout Pennsylvania to create, communicate, collaborate and share valuable resources to enhance student learning. PAIUnet provides PA Intermediate Units (IUs) and K-12 schools a network that is 50 times faster and 95% less expensive than using the commodity Internet to connect to one another. It increases connectivity between Pennsylvania IUs and school districts providing access to content and resources that will transform the way educational services and information are delivered. PAIUnet connects all 29 IUs and their member school districts throughout the Commonwealth. It also connects public library systems and charter schools. This project will have an impact on all areas of IU and school services from the business office to the classroom.

PAIUnet PAIUnet is a statewide, high-speed network Funded by the efund grant which is administered by PDE PAIU.net Council is governing body for PAIU.net We have struggled with content

Goals from the PAIUnet Strategic Planning Meeting (summer of 2011): Design and implement specific services to demonstrate the value of PAIUnet to its members and others Demonstrate the value of PAIUnet as a source of quality content delivered to high standards Demonstrate the value of PAIUnet as a platform for disseminating information on important topics to member entities.

Themes discussed at September 2011 PAIUCC Meeting Group 1 Professional Development What will we do? Group 2 Technology Integration How will we do it? Group 3 Evaluation How will we know?

Group 1 Professional Development What will we do? Topics discussed Repository to keep track of PD that has already been developed and is willing…perhaps in Keystone Commons or AgendaMan…or Moodle… Organize content, resources around the 7 state initiatives - Technical requirements to video professional development sessions to share. Use tools personally, before we use them professionally… HS Feedback Reporting – ready to go!! Options of videoconferencing these trainings across the state Striving Readers Grant will provide opportunities

Group 1 Professional Development What will we do? Topics discussed: What is new and what needs to be sustained… Classroom Diagnostic Tools Perhaps less is more – perhaps we focus on the seven areas and the Striving Readers Grant as the only things that we create/roll-out at this point and get really good at it, delivering a high-quality end product…Use these initiatives as an exemplary model This will help us to build capacity… Perhaps discuss the process of the IRA series to avoid pitfalls and avoid re- inventing the wheel… Discussions about lessons learned and things that we have done, take the best of what we have already experienced… Tap into what IUs are already doing online courses and over webinars, etc.

Group 2 Technology Integration How will we do it? ID Resources Currently Available: All currently available resources to be shared by Jenny Lent (so that she is aware when at PAIMS) Idea of compilation/creation of modules in Moodle/LMS

Group 2 Technology Integration How will we do it? Resources Shared: Pat DiRienzo, IU 3 - Training package called “We have got to stop meeting this way” One component is how to use videoconferencing Technical issues Engagement strategies for virtual learning Online learning training (courses already available via CPE that might be shared across all IUs) Jackie – offering three modules using technology via Elluminate

Group 2 Technology Integration Create “PD Modules” to address topics. Possible “big ideas:” Selecting the right tool for the job! What tool is most appropriate for connecting? Should it be F2F? Using the tools? Multi PT VC Model Pt to PT VC Model Webinar - Elluminate/WebEX, etc. LMS (Blackboard, Moodle, etc.) Embedded in these will be “How to use tools in an effective, engaging way?”

Group 3 Evaluation How will we know? Two evaluation strategies identified: Identify methods of measuring "value" of the uploaded Keystone On Demand events on PAIUnet, collect data to measure the value, and report to stakeholders Identify methods of measuring "value" of the above activities, collect data to measure the value, and report to stakeholders

Evaluation Group How will we know? The group identified several issues that could be measured to establish value. They include: Increased accessibility to professional development Access to professional development that would exist otherwise Evaluations completed by participants Use of glitch-free technology Increased student achievement Decreased costs to IU’s and districts

Update from Joint PAIMS/PAIUCC Collaborations

Develop Action Plan for each area Description People responsible Resources Timeline
