Baldur (Also known as Baldr or Balder) Emma Fenske Period 1

Bio  A god within Norse Mythology  “The Brave God”  Scandinavian God of Peace  Champion of goodness, innocence and forgiveness  One of the Aesir in which his name also translates to “The Glorious.”

Origin  Son of Odin and Frigg  His wife was Nanna and his son, Forseti  Baldur’s ship was known to be the greatest ever built- the Hringhorni “greatest of all ships”  There was also no place more beautiful than his hall, Breidablik “broad splendor” Below: Baldur & Nanna

The Death of Baldur  Every man refused to hurt Baldur, making him nearly indestructible.  Began with Baldur’s own dreams about his death.  Killed by Loki and Hodr through trickery with mistletoe, which in fact took the God down.

Baldur’s Legacy  Referred to as personification of the sun  Compared to as the Jesus figure of Norse Mythology  Is the god of light, joy, purity, beauty, innocence, and reconciliation.
