U.S. Department of Commerce Economics and Statistics Administration U.S. Census Bureau Overview of Race and Hispanic Origin: 2010 March 2011

The U.S. Census Bureau collects race and Hispanic origin information following the guidance of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget's (OMB) 1997 Revisions to the Standards for the Classification of Federal Data on Race and Ethnicity.

 "Hispanic or Latino" refers to a person of Cuban, Mexican, Puerto Rican, South or Central American, or other Spanish culture or origin regardless of race.  Hispanic origin can be viewed as the heritage, nationality group, linage, or country of birth of the person or the person's parents or ancestor's before their arrival in the United States.

Race: The seven race categories on the PRRS Data Collection Tool are aligned to OMB's race categories:  White  Black or African American  American Indian and Alaska Native  Asian  Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander  Two or More Races Other Race
