Types of Maps Physical map = shows the terrain and natural features of the land. Political map = shows human made boundaries, names of countries, cities and bodies of water. Thematic map = shows information about specific theme, such as climate or population. Directional map = shows how to get from one place to another

Geography Vocabulary Island – a body of land surrounded by water Oasis – a spot of fertile land in a desert Delta – a triangular area of land formed from deposits at the mouth of a river. Plateau = a broad flat area of land higher than surrounding land. Plain – flat land Valley – low land between hills or mountains. Canyon – a narrow deep valley with steep sides. Harbor- body of water surrounded by water and a safe place for ships to dock. River – stream of water Coast – land located along side the ocean or sea. Tributary - stream or river that flows into a larger river. Bay – part of an ocean or lake extending into the land.
