EUROPEANA DATA MODEL, short-term plans EDM worskhop 2015 Netherlands, Public Domain , Rijksmuseum Anonymous Arrival of a Portuguese ship

Our plans for the next 6 months EDM short-term plans CC BY-SA Developing new EDM extensions and refinements to address new requirements and needs from the community Developing EDM for better data quality to support Europeana’s efforts in other domains such as search or semantic enrichment Standardizing EDM as a framework for CH data to make sure EDM remains a suitable data framework for CH

Developing new EDM extensions and refinements Representation of annotations will allow the display and export of annotations in the Europeana portal and channels. based on the Web Annotation data model Representation of user-created sets of CH Objects define a more granular type of collection called "user-created sets" to support new user services within the Europeana portal and Europeana channels Finer-grained representation of rights continue to refine EDM for more finer-grained representation of rights in association with a controlled vocabulary: EDM short-term plans CC BY-SA

Developing new EDM extensions and refinements Describing content to enable re-use Increase the interoperability between media services and Europeana will need to be supported by EDM (cf. IIIF) Recommendations and possible EDM extensions for referencing full-text in the metadata describing a CH Object and representing the relationships between the full-text and other components of the digital objects (images) and descriptive metadata. (cf. Europeana Cloud) Indicating intermediate providers Introduce a new property to describe the full aggregation chain in the metadata EDM short-term plans CC BY-SA

Developing EDM for better data quality EDM contributed to the improvement of the quality of the data in Europeana but we can still make progress ! Europeana will develop an additional set of rules and metrics to encourage and check better data quality. work on EDM validation being done as part of the DCMI task group on RDF application profiles to provide Europeana’s data providers with better validation mechanisms to assess the quality of the metadata they provide to Europeana. EDM short-term plans CC BY-SA

Standardizing EDM as a framework for CH data A standardized development of EDM Continue to develop EDM as an iterative process by re-using as much as possible existing solutions Developing and adopting best practices If Europeana can’t develop the best practices ourselves we will voice the requirements of CH within new groups (e.g., W3C) Encouraging re-use of EDM Survey on EDM mappings, application profiles and extensions EDM short-term plans CC BY-SA
