What is gossip? When people spread rumors about another person it is called gossip. Gossip is talking about something that is not your problem.

Gossip is talking about someone else when you are not part of the solution for the problem either.

No one can make you listen to gossip! If someone starts to tell you rumors about another person, tell them that you do not want to hear it. You could say a sentence like this I Feel statement: “I feel uncomfortable when you tell me rumors about her and I want you to stop it.”

Before you pass along rumors, ask yourself…. “Is this information really true?” If it is not true, don’t repeat it! “If I repeat this, will it help anyone in any way?” If the answer is “no,” don’t repeat it! “If I repeat this, will it hurt anyone in any way?” If the answer is “yes,” don’t repeat it! “If someone said this about me, would I be upset?” If the answer is “yes,” don’t say it!
